Each edition is available in two formats, depending on which install method you desire:  A .cab file (.sis for Symbian) for copying directly to your device and installing from it, or an .exe file for installing the program from your PC using ActiveSync (in Windows XP), Windows Mobile Device Center (in Windows Vista) or Nokia PC Suite.

  13. For step-by-step instructions on how to install and activate ESET Mobile Security, please see the following Knowledgebase articles:

  14. Does the installation of ESET Mobile Security affect the performance of the operating system?

  15. Not noticeably. ESET Mobile Security was developed specifically for mobile devices. All processes and applications are designed and optimized for low system requirements.

  16. How is ESET Mobile Security updated?

  17. ESET Mobile Security downloads updates over the Internet. It can be updated automatically or manually by selecting Menu Update from the main ESET Mobile Security window. By default, ESET Mobile Security checks for updates weekly and downloads them if available. Automatic updates can be scheduled at one-day, three-day, weekly, bi-weekly or monthly intervals. Automatic updates can also be disabled.

  18. How big are virus signature database updates?

  19. Updates are designed to be small for the convenience of users who have slow or limited Internet access. The current update file is under 1000 bytes. We anticipate 20 to 40 bytes of increase in update size for each new threat added.

  20. Who pays for downloading updates?

  21. You are responsible for all costs associated with downloading virus signature database updates (data transmission fees, roaming fees and so forth, if applicable).

  22. What is a .cab file? What is a .sis file?

  23. Cabinet (.cab) files and System Installer Script (.sis) files are libraries of compressed files, stored into a single archive. Cabinet and System Installer Script files are often used as installers and may be a potential method for spreading malware.

  24. What is the difference between On-access and On-demand?

  25. On-demand functions require user interaction while On-access functions are executed automatically.

  26. Does ESET Mobile Security protect against SMS spam and MMS email?

  27. ESET Mobile Security offers SMS/MMS spam filtering using a Whitelist and Blacklist. The integrated on-access scanner protects against malicious email attachments.

  28. Are there plans for iPhone (iOS), Windows Phone, or Java BREW versions of ESET Mobile Security?

  29. ESET plans to provide versions of ESET Mobile Security to support additional mobile platforms. Visit the ESET Beta Program page to sign up to stay informed about upcoming beta releases.
