ESET Remote Administrator Console: Installation and Configuration FAQ
KB Solution ID: SOLN783|Last Revised: December 17, 2012Details
The ERA Console is the window to the ESET Remote Administrator Server (ERA Server)–client workstations transmit their data to the ERA Server, and the Console accesses this data from the Server and displays it in an organized way. Without a server running the ERAS service, there is nothing for the ERA Console to connect to. The ERA Console can connect to a server using the server's IP address, node name, or even a canonical name. For a visual depiction of the ERA Console's role, see Figure 1-1 below:

Figure 1-1
The ERA Console and ERA Server are shown here on different computers for explanitory purposes. In practice, they can be installed on the same computer.
- By default, no password is required to access the ERA Console.
- The ERA Console build and ERA Server build must be the same. Using different builds may give the appearance of a functional configuration but will ultimately result in system problems.

- How do I install ESET Remote Administrator and configure a Mirror server?
- I am having trouble performing a push install to client workstations—what should I do?
- Complete the Push Installation Checklist.
- Perform the push installation by following the instructions from one of the Knowledgebase articles below:
- How do I push install to client workstations using ESET Remote Administrator? (5.x)
- How do I push install to client(s) using ESET Remote Administrator? (4.x)
- ESET Remote Administrator Push Installation and Push Uninstallation Errors
- Why can't I see client workstations in the client tab of the ESET Remote Administrator Console?
- How do I push install to client workstations using ESET Remote Administrator? (5.x)
- Complete the Push Installation Checklist.
- The ERA installer does not run or runs without finishing—what should I do?
- Your download may be corrupted (not complete)
- The Console package you are trying to install may not be compatible with you server's operating system.
- Reference our download page to verify that you are using the appropriate installer. Make sure the download finishes without error before attempting to install.
- Make sure the user performing the installation has sufficient permissions. The ERA Console and ERA Server must be installed as Administrator and not as another account with Administrator “privileges”.
- If you are already logged in as Administrator, you can gather additional information on installation problems by creating logs and sending them to Customer Care for analysis.
- Your download may be corrupted (not complete)
- Can I create a configuration task on an upper server and distribute it to lower servers?
No. However, you can achieve the same end by connecting to the lower server using the upper server's console and then pushing out a configuration task to client workstations from the lower server:
- I have installed the ERA Console, but it will not connect to the ERA—What should I do?
- Verify that you have correctly uploaded your .lic file,
- for additional help with licensing issues see the licensing FAQ
- Try connecting to the ERA Server using the server's IP address rather than the server name (File
Edit Connections).
- Check to see that the ERAS service is running on the server, if not, restart the ERAS service.
- Verify that the server IP address (File
Edit Connections) you entered is correct.
- Verify that the ERA Console build and the ERA Server build are the same. There are two parts to ESET Remote Administrator, the ERA Console and the ERA Server “service”. Both must be the same build.
- If the service stops and displays an error message, please review section 8.2 of the ESET Remote Administrator manual for additional troubleshooting steps.
- If you choose not to upload a license file during installation of ESET Remote Administrator, ERA will remain in trial mode and will only accept connections from a maximum of two client workstations.
- Verify that you have correctly uploaded your .lic file,
- Why am I being prompted for a password to access the ERA Console?
If you did not create a password to restrict access to the ERA Console, leave the Password field blank and click OK.
- How do I know that I have successfully connected to the ERA Server?
Look to the bottom-right corner of the ERA Console: if a successful connection has been made to the ERA Server, you will see the word Connected in blue. If not, you will see the word Disconnected in red.
- I made some changes to my server and to the ESET Remote Administrator Server service and then restarted it. When I toggle back to the ERA Console nothing is available—What should I do?
Stopping and restarting the ESET Remote Administrator Server service will disconnect the ERA Console from the ERA Server. Click File
Connect from the ERAC main menu to reconnect.
