Undocumented Serious Error and cannot update the virus signature database in ESET Smart Security or ESET NOD32 Antivirus

  1. Open ESET Smart Security or ESET NOD32 Antivirus. How do I open my ESET product?
     
  2. Press F5 on your keyboard to access Advanced setup.
     
  3. Expand Update and click Settings.

    • 6.x and earlier users: click Update.
     
     
  4. Make sure that your Username and Password are entered correctly.

     
     
  5. Click Clear next to Clear update cache and click OK.

Why is Clear update cache greyed out?

If Clear update cache is greyed out, restart your computer and then attempt to update again (Before you restart, click here to bookmark this article). After your computer has restarted, repeat steps 3-5, Clear should now be active.

  1. Click Setup, click the HTTP Proxy tab, select Do not use proxy server and then click OK.

  1. Restart your computer. Before you restart, click here to bookmark this article
     
  2. After your computer has restarted, open ESET Smart Security or ESET NOD32 Antivirus. How do I open my ESET product?
     
  3. In the main program window, click Update Update now. Your ESET product should update automatically from now on. If the issue is not resolved, uninstall and then reinstall your ESET product.
