Can I easily move ESET Remote Administrator (ERA) clients from one server to another? (5.x)

Issue

  • Migrate client workstations to a new ESET Remote Administrator server

Solution

If all the clients you want to transfer to your new server are assigned to a common policy in the ESET Remote Administrator Console, use Method I to transfer them all to your new server using policy manager. Use Method II if you want to select only specific clients to transfer to your new server by arranging a configuration task.

I. Use policy manager to transfer clients

  1. Install ESET Remote Administrator Server (ERAS) on your new server computer and obtain the IP address for this machine.
     
  2. Open the ESET Remote Administrator console (ERAC) by double-clicking the ESET Remote Administrator Console icon on your Desktop, or by clicking Start All Programs ESET ESET Remote Administrator Console ESET Remote Administrator Console.
     
  3. Click Tools Policy manager.
     
  4. Select the policy that applies to the client workstations you want to transfer to your new server and click Edit.

  1. Expand Windows desktop v5 Kernel Settings Remote administration and then click Primary server address.
     
  2. Type the IP address of your new server into the Value field.

  1. Expand Windows desktop v5 Update Profile Settings, and then click Update server.
     
  2. Type the IP address and port # of the new server into the Value field in the form xxx.xxx.x.x:xxxx

  1. Click Console and then click Yes to save your changes. Client workstations assigned to this policy will inherit your new server settings the next time that they check into the ERAS.

II. Use a configuration task to transfer clients

  1. Install ESET Remote Administrator Server (ERAS) on your new server computer and obtain the IP address for this machine.
     
  2. Open the ESET Remote Administrator console (ERAC) by double-clicking the ESET Remote Administrator Console icon on your Desktop, or by clicking Start All Programs ESET ESET Remote Administrator Console ESET Remote Administrator Console. From the Clients tab, select all clients that currently connect to OLD_SERVER.
     
  3. Right-click the selected clients, and click New Task Configuration Task.
     
  4. Click Create in the Configuration for Clients window.

  1. Expand Windows desktop v5 Kernel Settings Remote administration, and then click Primary server address.
     
  2. In the Value field, enter the new server address as NEW_SERVER (no http://), or use the IP address of NEW_SERVER, in the form xxx.xxx.xx.x (again no http://).

  1. To configure the update server, expand Windows desktop v5 Update Profile Settings, and then click Update server.
     
  2. In Value field, enter the IP address of NEW_SERVER (http://xxx.xxx.x.x:xxxx).

  1. Close the Configuration Editor and click Yes when asked to save changes.
     
  2. Within a few minutes (according to the Interval between connections to server setting) the clients will pick up the configuration change and begin reporting to the new server.
