How do I create a new custom scan in ESET Smart Security / ESET NOD32 Antivirus?

Issue

  • Scan specific files, devices or drives
  • Exclude certain files or directories from a scan

Solution

  1. Open ESET Smart Security or ESET NOD32 Antivirus. How do I open my ESET product?
     
  2. Click Computer scan   Custom scan.

  1. In the Custom Scan window, click the + symbol next to a drive letter to expand the contents. Locate the file or folder you want to exclude from the scan process and verify that the adjacent check box is deselected.

  1. To exclude specific file types from scanning, click Setup.

  1. Click Extensions from the tree structure on the left. Type the 3-character extension into the Extension field, and click Add (extensions may be added as .DOC or DOC). Click OK.

File Extensions excluded by default

ESET Smart Security and ESET NOD32 Antivirus provide a pre-defined list of commonly excluded extensions. To automatically exclude extensions in the pre-defined list, deselect the check box next to Scan all files.

  1. Click Scan begin your Custom scan. All folders (and files within those folders) that have been deselected will not be included in the Computer scan.

Save your scan profile

You can click Save before running your custom scan to save these settings as a new scan profile. This will allow you to configure future scans using these settings by selecting this profile from the Scan profile drop-down menu.
